Artist, filmmaker, writer, poet and art theorist Marcus Reichert was born in the States in 1948. He currently lives and works in France. He has been a friend of Francis Bacon, Peter Beard, George Macbeth, and Ronnie Kray amongst other notable personalities. He began painting in oils at the age of 8 and in 1969 at the age of 21 he held his first solo exhibition at the Gotham Book Mart & Gallery (home to the Surrealists during WWII), in New York. His 1980 film <i>Union City</i>, starring Debbie Harry, was acclaimed as “an unqualified masterpiece”. His filmwork is in the archive of the Museum of Modern Art, New York. His latest book Art & Ego: Marcus Reichert in Converstion with Edward Rozzo was published in 2007. He currently works as the editor of the Art Theory Section of Ziggurat Books International.
